SIBU (Feb 8): The Pelawan state constituency service centre yesterday distributed 1,000 packs of minced meat to senior citizens in the Pelawan area in conjunction with the Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration.
Each one-kilogramme pack was handed out by deputy minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government and Pelawan assemblyman Datuk Michael Tiang at the Borneo Pork outlet, Rajang Garden Commercial Centre.
Tiang said the initiative was aimed at easing the cost of living burden, particularly among senior citizens, amid rising living expenses.
“We are aware that the cost of living continues to rise, and senior citizens are among those most affected,” he said.
“Through this contribution, we hope they can share the joy of Chinese New Year and celebrate the festive season with their families,” he told reporters.
He added that all 1,000 packs were successfully distributed, with a portion also donated to the Sibu Benevolent Society.
“We hope this small gesture allows us to share happiness with the community during this festive season,” he said.
Meanwhile, Tiang invited the public, especially Pelawan voters, to attend the Pelawan Chinese New Year Open House, which will be held at the Unicity Commercial Centre along Jalan Wawasan on Feb 18, the second day of Chinese New Year, from 11am to 1pm.
“This year’s celebration will be held on a larger scale at Unicity. We welcome people from all walks of life to join us and enliven the celebration,” he said.
Tiang also extended his Chinese New Year greetings to the public and wished everyone a happy and prosperous Year of the Horse.
