Nur Syakura's six-month sacrifice to the international stage

KUCHING, 7 Oct: Returning from Kuching to Kelantan for six months was a sacrifice for Nur Syakura Mohamad Musa to complete his land acquisition as preparation to represent Malaysia at the International Ranked Council of Land and Hafazan Al-Quran 1448H/2026.

Sarawak's daughter described the opportunity to reinvigorate science with teachers and coaches as a meaningful experience after nine years of active practice in the field of space as qariah.

According to Nur Syakura, the intensive training she underwent shaped her to become familiar with the rules of spacing, including from the aspects of voice, tajwid and taranum.

"My training is very rigorous, every day I train from morning to night because the focus is on me alone", she said in an interview with TVS.

Despite a rigorous training routine, dust conditions were among the challenges he faced because of health concerns.

"Powder is very harmful to health because it can affect the sound, breathing and health", he said.

Nur Syakura, who is the national level's Johan Majlis Tilawah and Hafazan Al-Quran, said she was grateful to receive funding from Darul Hana Quranic Centre under Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) for her training in Kelantan.

He also appreciated the continued support of MIS in its preparation for the competition.

According to him, the support not only lightened the burden in terms of training and travel costs but also gave him room to fully focus on preparation before representing Malaysia.

Nur Syakura's appearance on the global stage ended a nearly 19-year wait for Sarawak's qariah to perform internationally.

The last time Sarawak achieved international success was through the renowned Qariah figure of Sarawak, Allahyarhamah Amnah Ayup, who had banned Malaysia and Sarawak after the emergence of the International Ranking Quranic Examination Council's qariah johan in 2007.

A total of 50 participants from 38 countries will participate in the event, consisting of 25 participants for the space category and 25 participants for the Qur'an hadzan category.
