KUCHING, 7 Oct: The island of East Borneo, Indonesia is announced as the host city for the 3rd Borneo Economic Forum to be held in 2027.
The announcement was made on the occasion of the 2nd Borneo Economic Forum Gala Dinner, 2026, marking the continuation of efforts to strengthen regional economic cooperation across Borneo.
Expansion in the archipelago is expected to provide a platform for business, institutional and stakeholder sectors to expand networks and cross-border cooperation.
The meeting also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Borneo Economic Community (BEC) and Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA).
The MoU was signed by BEC Co-Chairman, Architect Rasjid and Chief Director of ERIA Policy Research and Design, Naoto Okura.
The cooperation is an important step in strengthening relations between the two parties, particularly in promoting economic cooperation and closer ties between Borneo and the wider ASEAN region.
In addition, a signing ceremony of the Statement of Cooperation (SOC) was also held to welcome the participation of institutional and corporate members into BEC.
A total of 17 organizations and companies signed the SOC this evening as part of the Borneo Econocmic Forum Gala Night at a prominent hotel here.
Among the members of the institutions involved are Borneo Economic Community, Indonesian Business Council (IBC), BIMP-EAGA Sarawak Association (BESA), Sarawak Business Federation (SBF), Sabah Bumiputera Chamber of Commerce (SBCC), Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) West Kalimantan, Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MICCI) Sabah, The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) South Borneo as well as the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) Indonesia.
Meanwhile, participating corporate members are Confer Sdn Bhd, Hatiassets Ltd, Adinin Group of Companies, YCH Group, PT Interport Mandiri Utama, Sriwijaya Capital, Aster Energy and Chemicals Ltd as well as Imasa Dynasty.
The sealing of the SOC reflects a shared commitment to strengthen the network of business and institutional cooperation in Borneo as well as opening up more opportunities for trade, investment, logistics, energy and regional economic development.
With the signing of MoU with ERIA and the participation of more institutional and corporate members, Borneo Economic Forum continues to strengthen its position as an important platform in driving regional economic cooperation. -TVS
