Ibrahim Baki suggested Sharbini join the Sarawak Energy Board of Directors

KUCHING, 7 Oct: Sarawak Deputy Minister of Utility (Sarawak Energy and PETROS) to embrace Sarawak Energy Chairman, Dato Haji Ibrahim Baki will nominate Datuk Sharbini Suhaili as a member of the Sarawak Energy Berhad Board of Directors (SEB).

He said the proposal had the approval and support of Sarawak's Prime Minister, His Highness Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

"I have confirmed this once again with the Prime Minister of Sarawak and he agreed and supported the proposal for Datuk Sharbini to be nominated as a member of SEB's Board of Directors.

"Therefore, at the next board meeting, I will nominate Datuk Sharbini as a member of SEB's Board of Directors. I'm sure he will play a slightly different role after this", she said while speaking at the Grandfather Sharbini Suhaili Farewell Dinner at the Sheraton Hotel, here today.

Ibrahim said Sharbini is an important asset to Sarawak, especially given his experience and expertise in the energy sector.

According to him, among Sharbini's major contributions during his leadership of Sarawak Energy were the acquisition of Bakun Hydro Electric Power (HEP), development of Borneo Grid and involvement in the energy transition agenda.

"Among the important achievements is the acquisition of Bakun Hydro Electric Power (HEP) which strengthens Sarawak Energy's generation portfolio, besides addressing some legacy issues related to the assets", he said.

He said Sharbini also played a role in the development of Borneo Grid which includes Sarawak-Kalimantan and Sarawak-Sabah connectivity, as well as expanding discussions on sustainability and energy transition through the Sarawak Renewable Energy Forum (SAREF) since 2019.

Ibrahim also attributed Sharbini's legacy not only based on achievements, but also includes institutions and workers developed to continue the sustainability of Sarawak Energy.

Sharbini will terminate his contract as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sarawak Energy Group at the end of October.

Meanwhile, Ibrahim welcomed the appointment of Dato Ruslan Abdul Ghani as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sarawak Energy Group which came into effect on 1 November.

He said Ruslan has met more than 2,000 employees of Sarawak Energy since taking office and is expected to lead the company to the next phase.
