KUCHING, 7 Oct: Several international players are expected to review investment opportunities in the gas sector in Sarawak in the near future, said Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

According to him, the development is related to Sarawak's efforts to develop gas as one of its energy sources, besides renewable energy in the state's mixed energy planning.

"There will be international players to see Sarawak. In the next two weeks, they will see Sarawak. It's not a small company, but it's a firmly established company in the world", he said.

He said this while addressing the grandfather Sharbini Suhaili farewell dinner at the Sheraton Hotel, here today.

Brother Johari said Sarawak is currently preparing to utilize its gas reserves, including through the development of gas hubs at Tanjung Embang.

He said infrastructure development in the area was also enhanced to support gas development planning and attract new investment opportunities to Sarawak.

"So we're looking at gas as another energy source. This will bring investment proposals to Sarawak, but I have not been able to disclose it yet", he said.

He said the use of gas as part of Sarawak's energy mix is also important in meeting industrial energy needs, especially as demand for green energy continues to increase.

Meanwhile, Brother Johari said Sarawak is focusing on renewable energy as a mixed-energy core, including solar, hydro and biomass, in addition to gas.

According to him, the approach is essential for ensuring Sarawak is prepared to meet changing global energy needs and attract high-quality investment to the state. - TVS
