KUCHING (March 16): Economic growth and infrastructure are not the only components of development when it comes to Sarawak, as the focus must also cover the wellbeing of its people and the spirit of togetherness in communities.
This was pointed out by Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah at an event held at Sarawak Hun Nam Siang Tng’s premises in Sekama here on Sunday.
The programme involved the presentation of Hari Raya goodies to 112 underprivileged families from Kuching, Serian and Samarahan divisions.
“In conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri, the centre continues this meaningful tradition by providing food provisions to the needy families.
“This initiative beautifully reflects the spirit of mutual respect and care – transcending culture and religion.
“It also reminds us that the strength of our society lies in our willingness to look after one another, and also to extend a helping hand to those in need,” she said, also thanking the organising committee and the volunteers who worked together to make the programme a success.
“Their work stands as a shining example of how community organisations can play an important role in building a caring and inclusive society.
“I hope that Sarawak Hun Nam Siang Tng would continue the charity work that it has carried out over the past 70 years.
“I sincerely wish the organisation a joyful and successful 70th anniversary celebration. May this organisation continue to prosper and flourish where charity grows, harmony deepens and blessings endure for generations to come.
“I would also like to extend my warmest greetings to all Muslims celebrating this meaningful and blessed festival. It is a time for gratitude, reflection and forgiveness.
“It is also a special occasion for families and communities to come together,”’ she elaborated.
Meanwhile, under the Aidilfitri festive contribution programme, each family received ‘duit raya’ (festive cash aid) ofRM50 along with food items such as beef and chicken, eggs, cooking oil and biscuits.
Also present was Sarawak Hun Nam Siang Tng chairman Tay Boon Sin and vice-chairman Lau Soon Yiun.
