KUCHING (Dec 1): The Muslim Welfare Organisation of Malaysia (Perkim) Kuching branch will be holding a boot camp to enhance Islamic knowledge among Muslim teenagers, said its deputy chairwoman Zabariah Matali.

“We are planning to select students from specific schools to join the programme, but we will have to discuss with the principals and obtain official permission from the Ministry of Education as it involves students,” she told reporters at the Bootcamp Solat Reunion closing ceremony at Masjid Darul Furqan yesterday.

She noted the boot camp is expected to be held next year, and would focus on three main areas — a refresher on prayer obligations, the importance of ‘sunat’ prayers, and guidance on performing prayers correctly.

“What we emphasise in our boot camps is first a refresher. We revisit the obligations of performing daily prayers. Secondly, we highlight the importance of ‘sunat’ prayers, and also include a session on how to perform prayers when one is ill, because not everyone is aware of this.

“For example, during the Bootcamp Solat Reunion programme, we conducted sessions to correct the participants’ prayer recitations, and also include a memorisation (hafazan) session,” she said.

Meanwhile, Masjid Darul Furqan chairman Mashap Alek said the programme was highly beneficial for the Muslim community.

“It provides many advantages, including improving worship skills, performing prayers correctly, and Quran recitation. We hope to continue this collaboration in future programmes,” he said.
