KUCHING (July 8): The Malaysian Muslim Welfare Organisation (Perkim) Sarawak’s fundraising run is back for its second edition this September 15, featuring its first-ever half marathon category.

Event’s organising chairperson Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib said Perkim Sarawak is targeting to raise at least RM200,000 through the event themed ‘Perkim Sarawak Charity Half Marathon 2024’.

“The main objectives of this run are to diversify Perkim Sarawak’s funding sources, cover the operational and improvement costs of the Laila Stroke Care Centre, promote a healthy lifestyle and foster unity among Sarawak’s diverse communities,” she said during a press conference here yesterday.

“We aim to raise at least RM200,000 and anticipate around 2,000 participants, including both Malaysians and international runners in the event,” said Hanifah while calling upon the public to support the fundraising initiative.

Hanifah is set to flag off the event at around 4am at the Sarawak State Library compound in Petra Jaya here on Sunday, September 15.

This year’s event features a 21km half marathon and 10km competitive runs, as well as 5km and 3km fun runs, open to both men and women.

The first-place winners in the 10km men’s and women’s categories will receive RM1,000 each, while the 21km category winners will take home RM2,000 each, as well as stand a chance to win lucky draw prizes.

Registration is open until August 15 and can be done online at ticket2u.com.my by searching for ‘Perkim’.

Manual registration is also available by contacting the Perkim Sarawak office on 082-253211.

Additionally, a virtual run option is available for those outside Kuching. For more information, contact event manager Ryan Jee on 016-8917288.
