KUCHING, April 29: A proposal to develop permanent infrastructure at Mukah to support large-scale events, including the iconic Kaul Festival, has been presented to the Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg as part of efforts to enhance facilities and reduce long-term event management costs.

In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news, Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi said discussions on the matter were held during a courtesy visit to Premier at Satria Pertiwi Complex today.

He said the proposal includes the construction of permanent structures such as a permanent stage and event tents, as well as upgrades to existing parking facilities.

“We have discussed with the Premier the need to improve existing facilities in the area so that event organisation costs can be reduced in the future.

“Among the proposals is the construction of permanent facilities such as a permanent stage and tents, instead of relying on temporary structures that must be brought in for every event, as well as improving parking facilities due to recurring congestion issues,” he told a press conference after the meeting.

Abdul Yakub, who also chairs the Kaul Mukah 2026 Main Committee, noted that the Kaul Festival has seen growing participation from both local communities and international visitors, underscoring the need for more robust infrastructure to support its continued expansion.

Meanwhile, Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine proposed the development of a permanent food court under the Rajang Delta Development Agency (RADDA) to further strengthen year-round activities at the site.

“This will ensure we do not face major constraints in the future when organising any form of events in the beach area, whether Kaul Festival, food festivals or other activities, as improved facilities will allow them to be carried out more effectively,” he said.
