KUCHING, March 7: Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) continues its annual tradition of spreading joy this Hari Raya Aidilfitri, distributing essential food baskets and festive treats to 350 underprivileged families in Petra Jaya.
The recipients came from the Tupong, Samariang, and Satok state constituencies. Each food basket included staples such as rice, cooking oil, sugar, chicken curry, rendang paste, food paste, ground nuts, coconut milk, condiments and locally produced tea.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof, who is also the Petra Jaya MP, expressed his gratitude to PETRONAS and Yayasan PETRONAS for choosing Petra Jaya as the location for the programme this year.
“Ramadan teaches us more about nurturing the heart than just enduring hunger and thirst. It is about purifying ourselves so that we can embody the compassion that Islam encourages.
“As the Prophet Muhammad said, one’s faith is not complete until we love our fellow human beings as we love ourselves, showing care and kindness to others,” he said during PETRONAS’ Uplifting Lives programme held at Ikhwanul Islam Mosque, Taman Sukma here today.
Meanwhile, PETRONAS Senior Vice President for Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), Datuk Bacho Pilong, said the Hari Raya Aidilfitri initiative this year aims to bring joy to 4,850 families in need.
“With the support of the Kuching Resident and District Offices, these families have been identified to receive festive baskets containing essential food items and treats.
“We hope this contribution brings some happiness and hope as they celebrate Aidilfitri, reflecting PETRONAS’ commitment to community well-being and local economic growth,” he stated.
In addition to Petra Jaya, PETRONAS is running similar Hari Raya initiatives for 1,000 beneficiaries across Sarawak, including in Bekenu, Bintawa, Bintulu, Limbang, and Lawas, to ensure no community is left behind during the festive season.
Also present was Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali. — DayakDaily
