The event was officiated by Lawas District Office administrative officer AO Aminul Faidzrin, who represented Lawas MP Dato Henry Sum Agong.

In his speech, Aminul welcomed PETRONAS’ initiative, describing it as a testament to the company’s continued commitment to supporting the Merapok community through the organisation of a communal breaking-of-fast event as well as the distribution of essential food items.

“Programmes like this not only help ease the burden of the community, but also strengthen the spirit of unity and togetherness among residents throughout Ramadan,” he said in a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news.

Meanwhile, PETRONAS SSGP operations general manager Chin Wee Yang said the programme reflected the spirit of care and collaboration among various parties to ensure the welfare of the community continues to be prioritised.

He added that Ramadan teaches the values of moderation, patience and the importance of helping one another.

“Today, 200 recipients received essential items such as rice, sugar and flour, which we hope will help ease their burden and support their preparations throughout Ramadan,” he said.

The programme also featured a religious talk on moderation delivered by Ustaz Amirul Hakim from the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (JAIS), before concluding with congregational prayers.

Also present were Safinah Kamri from the Social Welfare Department, Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Lawas Station chief Clarence D. Primus Tiandun, representatives from the police force, community leaders, village heads and local residents. — DayakDaily
