KUCHING, April 2: Petroliam Nasional Bhd (PETRONAS) is working with the relevant authorities to secure domestic supply while accelerating efforts to raise crude production.
According to a report by Bernama, PETRONAS’ vice-president of upstream development Mohd Nazlee Rasol said supply security remains a top priority, with ongoing discussions aimed at identifying the fastest ways to boost output.
Speaking at the Offshore Technology Conference Asia panel session on “Accelerating Development for Energy Security: Fast-Tracking Field Strategies in a Volatile World” on Wednesday (April 1), he said PETRONAS is engaging service providers, including Weatherford, to explore technologies and initiatives that could lift oil and gas production.
A dedicated task force has also been formed to assess measures to increase production, ensuring that the country’s refineries continue to receive a steady supply.
“For gas, I guess again in Sarawak, for example, we have an abundance of gas there and we have our portfolios.
“But definitely whatever happens in West Asia will impact some of these portfolios. We are, again, working closely with the relevant authorities just to understand how we can improve supply security to ensure it is not affecting Malaysia,” he said, according to Bernama.
Mohd Nazlee emphasised that these efforts are part of PETRONAS’ broader strategy to maintain national energy security amid global market volatility. – DayakDaily
