MIRI (Dec 29): Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sibuti has welcomed the call by the Chamber of Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs (DUBS) Miri and its non-governmental organisations (NGOs) partners to cancel the proposed ‘foam party’ scheduled for New Year’s Eve here in Miri.

In a statement, its deputy branch chief Zulhaidah Suboh said activities which undermine moral values, conflict with ethical principles, or clash with Malaysia’s multiracial culture and identity should be avoided.

“Events that promote unrestricted social interaction or excessive entertainment, potentially leading to social ills or compromising personal and family dignity are inappropriate,” she said.

Zulhaidah highlighted that Sarawak, known for its racial and religious harmony, has consistently upheld the principles of the Rukun Negara, alongside family values, good manners and mutual respect.

She also called on parents and guardians to monitor their children’s activities and instil strong moral and religious values from an early age.

“Community leaders, non-governmental organisations and religious bodies must continue to play an active role in safeguarding the well-being of local communities, particularly the youth,” she said.

She said advocated a ‘Plan First, Evaluate First, Approve Later’ approach for public activities to ensure they contribute positively to human development, foster unity and preserve cultural identity and harmony.

“With the cooperation of all parties, social well-being, cultural uniqueness and national stability can be safeguarded,” she added.
