KUCHING, March 13: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has vowed to resolve several Sarawak development projects delayed at certain federal departments within weeks after Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

He said the projects, proposed by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during a meeting earlier today, involve critical services such as water and electricity supply.

“I will inform Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Patinggi Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to find a way, because for us, water and electricity supply are urgent for our people.

“There should not be excuses to delay these projects,” he said during the Madani breaking-of-fast event held at Masjid Jamek Kuching this evening.

He further said resolving the matter would require close cooperation between the federal and Sarawak governments.

“I give my assurance that, God willing, within a few weeks after Aidilfitri, we will make a decision so that there is more room for effective implementation in cooperation with the Sarawak government,” he added.

Earlier, Anwar also revealed that about RM150 million has been approved for the immediate repair of a damaged barrage in the State.

He said the proposal to repair the barrage was raised by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof during a Cabinet meeting in Putrajaya earlier this morning.

“He said there was a barrage that is damaged and we need to find a way to approve the project.

“Even before I boarded the plane (to Kuching), we agreed to it – about RM150 million to immediately repair the barrage,” he revealed.

Also present were Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Fadillah, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, and Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, Kuching North City Commission and Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi. — DayakDaily
