SIBU (Feb 19): A 29-year-old man lost his life in a road accident at KM209 Jalan Sibu-Bintulu near the Sibu Jaya roundabout on Wednesday.

Acting Sibu police chief Supt Boniface Bajai said preliminary investigations revealed that the motorcyclist was travelling against traffic towards Sibu Jaya when he collided head-on at 6.12am with a car driven by a 51-year-old man heading towards the town centre.

“The motorcyclist suffered severe head injuries and a severed left leg and was pronounced dead at the scene while the car driver escaped without injuries.

“The impact caused extensive damage to both vehicles,” he said.

Boniface said an investigation paper has been opened and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He also urged all road users to adhere to traffic rules to prevent similar tragedies.
