KUCHING, Oct 3: Police raided an entertainment center in the Tabuan Tranquility area of Canna Street, here, believed to be operating without a legal entertainment license, early yesterday morning.
Kuching District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga son of Chabu said a local 33-year-old man was arrested in the operation around 3am that morning.
"During the operation, police also seized musical equipment used on the premises.
"The case is being investigated under Section 5 ((1)) of the Entertainment Ordinance 2000 for engaging in recreational activities without a valid license", he said in a statement today.
He said if convicted, the suspect could be fined up to RM20,000 or imprisoned for no more than five years or both.
"The police will continue to carry out monitoring and enforcement actions from time to time to ensure that entertainment premises owners comply with the established rules", he said.
He also advised all entertainment premises entrepreneurs in Kuching district to obtain a legitimate entertainment license and not carry out activities beyond the prescribed operating hours. -TVS
