KUCHING (Nov 3): Fans in Sarawak have eagerly awaited Power Station’s return since their last concert in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah in 2017 and the excitement was palpable as the band took the stage last night.
The first night of Power Station’s ‘Because of Love’ world tour concert in Kuching was filled with nostalgia, highlighting the band’s lasting impact on the Chinese music scene.
The two-hour concert drew an enthusiastic crowd of 4,500 fans at the Stadium Perpaduan at Petra Jaya. The audience passionately resonated with the music, singing along to their favourite tracks.
The Taiwanese rock duo, Yu Chiu-hsin and Yen Chih-lin, showcased their powerful vocals, living up to their nickname ‘Iron Lung Rock,’ and took fans on an emotional rollercoaster.
The concert opened with ‘Rock Zone’ (摇滚区), one of Power Station’s standout tracks, known for its high-energy rock vibe and catchy melody.
This was followed by ‘Continue to Rotate’ (继续转动) and ‘Long Live Hi-Song’ (嗨歌万万岁, which sent the crowd into a frenzy
Throughout the performance, they also sang hits like ‘Heartless Love Letter’(无情的情书), ‘Endless Tomorrow’ (明天的明天的明天), ‘Impulsive’ (冲动), and ‘Cherish’ (珍惜), among others.
Between songs, the duo shared their experiences and expressed their love for Kuching, sprinkling in light-hearted jokes that lifted the audience’s spirits even higher.
They also presented a video detailing their past, where both of them struggled in the beginning. However, it was not much of a struggle for them as they were working hard to make their dream come true.
In the video, they talked about Yu’s marriage in 2019, with Yen expressing his happiness for his partner and hoping that Yu will have kids one day.
In a special moment, Yu donned a traditional Iban vest that was gifted by the Kuching South Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, who also attended the concert.
The concert concluded with two of the fans’ most beloved songs, ‘Dan’ (当) and ‘Walking Along Zhongxiao East Road Nine Times’ (忠孝东路走九遍).
‘Dan’ serves as the opening theme song for a very famous TV drama ‘Return of the Pearl Princess’, while ‘Walking Along Zhongxiao East Road Nine Times’ (忠孝东路走九遍) won the Silver Award for Best Mandarin Song at the 24th Radio Television Hong Kong Top Ten Golden Song Awards.
The duo performed a total of 19 songs, and as the night drew to a close, fans were reluctant to say goodbye.
The Power Station’s first concert in Kuching exceeded expectations, reaffirming the deep bond they share with their Sarawakian fans.
