KUCHING, April 26: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg accompanied the Selangor Tengku Permaisuri, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin of Selangor, to the gala dinner held in conjunction with the 46th National Pertubuhan Kebajikan Islam Malaysia (PERKIM) Women Wing’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) last night (April 25).

According to a report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), the event held in Kuala Lumpur, highlighted the role of PERKIM Women as a key platform in empowering Muslim women through dakwah, education, and welfare initiatives.

Abang Johari, who is also PERKIM president, witnessed the official launch ceremony, which was officiated by the Tengku Permaisuri together with the National PERKIM Women chief Tunku Puan Sri Dato Noor Hayati Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj.

Accompanying him was Sarawak’s Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, DBKU and Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.

The programme also featured the presentation of mock cheques from contributors to PERKIM Women Selangor, as well as donations to the Institut Dakwah Islamiah PERKIM (IDIP) in Kota Bharu, Kelantan.

Established in 1974, PERKIM Women continues to play an active role in guiding female converts, strengthening family institutions, and extending aid to those in need, particularly mualaf.

The evening was further enlivened with cultural performances, a video presentation sharing stories of female converts, and a closing performance before the Tengku Permaisuri departed. — DayakDaily
