KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg commended UDA Holdings Berhad’s commitment to expanding new development areas in Jepak, Bintulu, as part of a planned economic expansion in Sarawak.
“I call this the second wave of development for Bintulu, focusing on Jepak.
“This planned expansion by UDA will have a significant impact on Sarawak’s economy,” he said when officiating at the closing ceremony of the last leg of the UDA Carnival @ Sarawak held at the Neu Pendington Project Site here on Sunday.
He also expressed gratitude to UDA’s choice of Jepak for its new development efforts as the ongoing infrastructure projects like the Bintulu-Jepak bridge will further enhance growth in the area.
“With UDA’s expansion into this new area, and the Bintulu-Jepak bridge project reaching its final phase, we expect to see even more development in Jepak.
“The bridge, comparable to San Francisco’s Golden Gate, is set for completion by the end of this year, God willing, in just about a month,” he added.
He said the bridge will not only connect Bintulu town with Jepak but also boost economic growth in Sarawak.
For the record, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas earlier confirmed that the Bintulu-Jepak Bridge project has reached 82 per cent completion and remains on track to be opened to public by Feb 2025.
He said once open, it will significantly ease travel between Bintulu’s town centre, Jepak, and nearby areas, including Bintulu Airport.
