KUCHING (Oct 31): Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) has recognised the designation of Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) as the sole aggregator for natural gas in the state.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said Petronas had informed the state government informally on the matter.
“In principle, Petronas agrees that Petros will be the only aggregator.
“This has already been informally conveyed to (Utility and Telecommunication Minister Dato Sri) Julaihi (Narawi), and the official letter will follow,” he told reporters when visiting Sarawak Sikh Temple Association president Dr Kalwinder Singh Khaira’s Deepavali open house here today.
Abang Johari was asked about the current progress of the Sarawak government’s decision to give Petronas three months to finalise arrangements with state-owned oil and gas company Petros regarding gas distribution in Sarawak.
“Petronas has informed us and, officially, the matter could be finalised today.
“Meaning we will proceed with our role as the aggregator and the detailed formula will be discussed further,” he explained.
Effective Feb 1 this year, Petros was appointed as the sole gas aggregator for Sarawak to procure all natural gas produced in the state by upstream gas producers for the distribution, supply, and sale to all downstream gas buyers.
The appointment followed the passing of the tabulated Bill for the Amendment to the Distribution of Gas Ordinance, 2016 at the State Legislative Assembly in November last year.
