Serian’s 108 schools to close from tomorrow as API hits 214

KUCHING (Sept 23): All 108 schools in the Serian district will be temporarily closed from tomorrow (Sept 24) due to worsening haze conditions.

The Sarawak Education Department said in a statement that the decision was made following continuous monitoring of air quality, which showed the Air Pollutant Index (API) had exceeded 201.

As of 10pm, the API reading in Serian stood at 214.

“The closure takes effect immediately and will remain in force throughout the period when the API readings remain at the stated level,” the department said.

During the temporary closure, teaching and learning activities will be conducted through Home-Based Teaching and Learning (PdPR).

The department said the measure was implemented in accordance with Circular Letter No. 1 of 2019.

Further updates on the reopening of schools will be announced by the department.
