BAU (Aug 17): An allocation of RM55 million has been approved for the construction of a new road connecting Kampung Suba and Kampung Suba Buan here to Bau town, announced Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Johari Tun Openg.
“I have instructed the Public Works Department (JKR) to draft the road plan according to the R3 Standard including a bridge, with a cost of approximately RM55 million.
“When it is finished, those coming from Bau town can even reach the villages here in less than five minutes. The new three kilometre road will boost development in the areas involved,” he said when officiating at the launch of SK Suba Buan’s new school building here today.
Abang Johari added that the need to construct a new connecting road is due to the villages possessing irregular infrastructure, leading to constant flooding in the area.
With the new road, he suggested new residential areas or resettlements to be developed so that the villages can be moved to higher ground to avoid areas prone to flooding.
“The new road will also serve as an access road for the villages to move to higher ground, aside from providing access to the new school,” he said.
