KUCHING, May 21: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Batu Lintang Information chief Hadzman Johnny says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) demonstrates that Sarawak remains firmly on track under the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

In a statement today, he said the speech reflected the Sarawak government’s strong commitment towards driving sustainable economic growth, strengthening political stability and ensuring inclusive development for all Sarawakians.

“In facing global economic uncertainty and geopolitical challenges, the Premier reaffirmed that Sarawak remains on the right track under the PCDS 2030 by focusing on renewable energy, digital transformation, food security and strategic investments to strengthen the State’s long-term resilience and competitiveness,” he said.

Hadzman further said the speech also highlighted Sarawak’s bold vision in advancing the green economy through renewable energy expansion, hydrogen development, low-carbon industrial initiatives and climate governance reforms.

“The establishment of strategic initiatives such as the Bintulu Transitioning Industrial Cluster (TIC), Sarawak Climate and Energy Diplomacy Unit (SACED) and Sarawak’s Hydrogen Economy Roadmap demonstrates the State government’s serious commitment towards sustainable development and environmental responsibility,” he added.

At the same time, he said the Premier also outlined Sarawak’s aspirations to become a regional leader in the digital and artificial intelligence (AI) economy through the development of the Kuching AI Data Campus, sovereign AI infrastructure and aerospace industry initiatives.

This, he said, includes plans to establish the Sarawak Space Agency and launch Sarawak’s first nanosatellite by 2030.

He also noted that the continued emphasis on infrastructure development, including the New Kuching International Airport (NKIA), deep-sea port, AirBorneo, road connectivity and major bridge projects across Sarawak, reflected the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government’s determination to ensure balanced development and improved accessibility throughout the State, especially in rural and interior areas.

He also pointed to the government’s continued investment in education and youth empowerment initiatives such as the Free Tertiary Education Scheme (FTES), laptop assistance programme, book vouchers and expanded Yayasan Sarawak support for students across Malaysia.

At the same time, he said the speech reaffirmed the Sarawak government’s unwavering stand in safeguarding Sarawak’s rights under Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), including the State’s rights over oil and gas resources, while maintaining constructive cooperation with the federal government for the benefit of the rakyat.

“The Premier’s speech serves as a clear roadmap for Sarawak’s future — one that is driven by stability, visionary leadership, prudent governance and people-centric development.

“Under the leadership of Premier and the GPS government, Sarawak continues to move forward confidently towards becoming a prosperous, inclusive and sustainable region for future generations,” he emphasised. — DayakDaily
