KUCHING, Apr 27: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to present 2,000 land titles to residents in the Bau district in a handover ceremony on June 23, says Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep.
Speaking during the closing ceremony of the ‘BiSingai Townhall’ programme held at Dewan Datuk Peter Nansian Ngusie in Kampung Apar Singai on Sunday (Apr 26), the Deputy Minister for Transport said the ceremony is being held in conjunction with the official opening of the Bidayuh Cultural Centre (BCC) Bau.
At the same time, he also stressed that the initiative is an ongoing effort by the Sarawak government and not driven by ‘short-term political interests.
“The State government has long been committed to ensuring that land ownership—particularly Native Customary Rights (NCR) land—is recognised and formally granted,” he said, as reported by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas).
Henry elaborated that the Singai area has seen encouraging progress in the land title issuance process.
He explained that the initiative began in January 2019 in Kampung Sudoh with the issuance of 636 titles involving several villages, including Kampung Daun, Kampung Tanjong Bowang, and Kampung Senibung, as well as Bumiputera communal reserve land for agricultural and heritage purposes.
This continued in February 2020 in Kampung Bobak Sejinjang, where 528 titles were issued to residents from Kampung Sudoh, Kampung Atas, Kampung Bobak Sajong, and Kampung Daun.
In September 2020, 132 titles were distributed in Kampung Tanjong Poting, involving nearby villages.
In September 2022, 305 recipients received their land titles, involving residents from Kampung Barieng, Kampung Senibung and Kampung Skibang.
For 2024, 845 recipients from several villages, including Kampung Segong, Kampung Senibung, Kampung Tanjong Poting, Kampung Apar, Kampung Sibuluh, Kampung Atas, and Kampung Grogo, also received land titles.
Meanwhile, during the event, Henry also presented incentives amounting to RM39,100 to 86 students from the Tasik Biru constituency who are pursuing their tertiary education. — DayakDaily
