KOTA KINABALU (Jan 20): Sabah community development leaders (PPM) must discharge their duties with integrity, as they represent the state government in their respective constituencies, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor.

He said those serving in opposition constituencies in particular had a heavy responsibility of earning the people’s trust in the Gabungan Rakyat Sarawak (GRS)-led state government.

“Apart from following the government’s instructions, the role of community development leaders in opposition constituencies is challenging.

“You are the government’s eyes and ears, so do your job properly,” he said after officiating the second phase of the community development leaders oath-taking ceremony at Menara Kinabalu here.

Thirty-five PPMs, most of which will be posted in opposition constituencies, took their oath yesterday. A total of 45 PPMs took their oath during the first oath-taking ceremony held on Jan 13.

Hajiji said that PPMs must safeguard the image of the state government.

“Do not do things for personal gain. If I find those pursuing their own interests and neglecting the people, I will not hesitate to sack them. Don’t abuse your power, but give priority to those who are really in need of assistance,” he said.

He also said the PPMs must explain to the grassroots about the state government’s policies, initiatives, and achievements under the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya.

Also present were cabinet ministers and PPM Unit director Datuk Awang Kadin Tang.
