BINTULU, Sept. 21: Public health workers must continue to improve their skills and self-efficacy in order to cope with technological change and current challenges.
Sarawak Government Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki said that civil servants should not be satisfied with the level of existing capabilities, instead they should constantly improve their knowledge and skills.
"As civil servants, we face many challenges and we have to deal with change and move along with it, we have to improve our capabilities and not just be satisfied with the current level. Whatever we can improve, we need to improve, including in terms of technology.
"If we lack mastery of technology, we need to improve skills in the field", he said during his address at the Honorable Board of Trustees of the Sarawak Government Secretary at a hotel here last night.
He believes that rapid technological change requires civil servants to be always ready to improve their own capabilities.
Therefore, he stressed that continuous training and learning is essential to ensure that civil servants are able to adapt to current needs and perform tasks more effectively.
In the meantime, he said, sports activities can help civil servants reduce work stress, besides maintaining health and fostering team spirit, involvement in sports activities gives space to civil servants to reduce stress after performing daily tasks.
"What's important to me is that we take care of our health. As civil servants, we shouldn't be too stressed about our jobs. This kind of activity is one way to reduce work pressure and keep us healthy.
"At the same time, it's related to our responsibility as civil servants because team spirit is very important, in whatever sport we play, whether it be football, badminton, bowling, basketball, cricket and so on, we can't play alone. So in the workplace, we can't work alone", he said.
He believes that group sports not only benefit physical and mental health, but also help build relationships and cooperation among civil servants.
He said the team spirit fostered through these activities should be applied in the day-to-day tasks to ensure that responsibilities can be carried out more effectively. - TVS
