KAPIT (Oct 31): The federal government has been asked to fund proposed infrastructure development projects in Baleh, Bukit Mabong District.
Deputy Minister of Digital Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, who is Hulu Rajang MP, and Baleh assemblyman Nicholas Kudi Jantai made the request to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi recently.
Uggak briefed Ahmad Zahid, who is also Minister for Rural and Regional Development, on how Bukit Mabong is vastly untapped and lagging behind in infrastructure.
He pointed out that the longhouses in the district, which are scattered far apart in rural areas, are in need of road links.
Separately, Ugak also chaired a meeting with Sarawak Energy Berhad to discuss the proposed cascading dam at Sungai Gaat, Baleh as another source of renewable energy.
Ugak said apart from road projects, it is equally important to have reliable clean water supply, electricity, wireless telecommunication, as well as socioeconomic projects in the area.
“The ultimate goal is to improve the living standards in the rural longhouses through land development to generate income,” he added.
