SIBU (Jan 7): Rajang Taekwondo Club (RTC) returned with two gold, two silver and two bronze medals from the 10th Ma’anshan Taekwondo Open which ended in China last weekend.
Adviser Thomas Tang said the results surpassed those achieved the previous time they took part in the tournament.
“The last time we took three bronzes and this time we bagged two medals of each colour which was beyond expectations,” he added.
Tang attributed the results to the consistency and determination of the exponents to win something for the club.
The gold medalists are Jasmond Ting and Lousie Yew, silver medalists are Tang Wei Yeo and Ethan Tang, and bronze medallists are Benson Tie and Kingson Iun.
Tang was particularly impressed with Kingson who was the youngest in the team.
The 10-year-old from SJK (C) Su Lai won his bronze in the Boy’s 32kg category.
About 3000 athletes from more than 30 countries took part in the tournament including Nepal, India, South Korea, China, Chinese Tapei, Bangladesh, Singapore, Thailand, Australia, Brunei and Cambodia.
South Korea, which was represented by over 100 athletes, topped the medal tally.
