BINTULU (Feb 21): The holy month of Ramadan goes beyond fasting and other religious obligations, as it can also also bring members of the ‘ummah’ (society) closer together.

In highlighting this, Jepak assemblyman Iskandar Turkee hailed Ramadan as ‘the most meaningful time of the year’

“The month advocates us to strengthen our acts of worship, but I also view it as a time when we can foster closer ties and strengthen unity within the ‘ummah’.

“In this regard, I would like to express my appreciation to the mosque committee and the congregation here for their warm hospitality.

“My prayer is for this Ramadan to bring more blessings, peace and abundant sustenance to all of us,” he said when met after performing the isyak and tarawih prayers with the local Muslims at Masjid At-Taqwa here on Thursday night.

Iskandar said he was grateful for the opportunity to join fellow Muslims in performing the congregational prayers, especially the once-in-a-year tarawih.

“It is truly heart-warming to be able to sit together, shake hands and have casual conversations with everyone after the prayers,” he said.

“God-willing, I would continue to join the local community in these congregational prayers whenever the opportunity arises,” added the assemblyman.
