KUCHING (March 14): Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice-president Datuk Seri R. Ramanan has called on party members in Sarawak to strengthen the party machinery and grassroots organisation in preparation for the upcoming election.
In a Facebook post, Ramanan said members must begin mobilising early, stressing that preparations at all levels are crucial to ensure a strong victory.
“Preparations of the party machinery, empowerment of the grassroots as well as the organisation of work and communication must be strengthened so that we can achieve a strong victory in the election,” he said.
Ramanan was in Kuching on Friday for the PKR Sarawak Mini Convention which was declared open by Prime Minister and party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said their presence at the convention was warmly received by the leadership and members of PKR Sarawak in the spirit of a “big family”.
Ramanan also urged party members to remain united and stand firmly behind Anwar in continuing the reform agenda within the government.
“We must move together to ensure the reform agenda in the government is implemented consistently for the well-being of the people,” he said.
Anwar, in a separate Facebook post, urged party leaders, members and activists to continue strengthening unity within the party and remain steadfast in pursuing reforms.
In his speech at the PKR Sarawak mini convention, Anwar said he told those present that PKR was not merely a political organisation but a platform born out of the determination to bring change, uphold justice and elevate the dignity of the people.
He stressed that national progress must be shared by all and not confined to the elite, pointing out that PKR has consistently championed the voices of diverse communities across the country.
“From issues involving native customary land in Sarawak to the plight of the people in Sabah, Kelantan, Perlis and Johor, the party has always been firm in carrying the voice of the people,” he said.
He also reminded party members that the real measure of reform is in how it is carried out while in power, not after losing it.
“I admit not all reforms we aspire to can be implemented as quickly as we want, but what is important is consistency and the awareness that we are not perfect. We must carry out our work as best as we can,” he said.
