Rear tyres of fertiliser-laden lorry catch fire in Sibu

SIBU (Jan 15): Firefighters swiftly extinguished a fire involving the rear tyres of a lorry along Jalan Paradom here this evening.

Sibu Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 4 chief Andy Alie said they received a distress call at 6.17pm, prompting a team from the central fire station to be dispatched to the site, located about 17 kilometres away.

“Upon arrival, the operations commander reported that the flames had completely engulfed the rear tyres on the left side of the lorry,” he said.

Firefighters immediately worked to put out the blaze, and managed to bring the situation under control.

Andy said the lorry was carrying 20 tonnes of limestone fertiliser at the time of the incident.

No injuries or casualties were reported.

The operation ended at 7.05pm, and the team returned to the station after ensuring the scene was safe.
