BINTULU (Jan 17): Relief has come to flood-hit areas in Bintulu as the last three temporary evacuation centres (PPS) officially closed today, signalling a return to normalcy for residents.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in an update confirmed the closures, which include the Bintulu Civic Centre PPS, Sri Kemena Hall PPS in SMK Sebauh, and Sebauh Community Hall PPS.

The Bintulu Civic Centre PPS was the first to close at 1.30pm, followed by the Sri Kemena Hall PPS at noon, and the Sebauh Community Hall PPS at 4pm.

With these closures, all flood evacuation centres in Bintulu have now ceased operations, as evacuees return safely to their homes.

Sebauh District was among the worst-hit areas during the recent floods, described by many as the most severe in the district’s history.
