KUCHING: The Wawasan School project initiated in 2003 should be revived to foster closer relationships among students and serve as a platform to strengthen national unity.

National Unity Minister Datuk Seri Aaron Ago Dagang said his ministry is currently reviewing the Wawasan School concept in detail before submitting it to the Cabinet.

“One of the two recommendations proposed at the 2024 National History and Unity Convention in Kuala Lumpur recently is to reintroduce the Wawasan School concept.

“This initiative is led by the National Archives of Malaysia, and the proposal will be studied before being presented to the Cabinet,” he said.

He said this during the closing ceremony of the National Level Anak Malaysia Unity Camp 2024 held at Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (CENTEXS) here on Saturday night.

Aaron expressed his hope that the camp would continue in the coming years to instil the appreciation of the Rukun Negara values among students, as well as to foster unity and celebrate diversity.

“The philosophy we adopt is the Rukun Negara, and this is interpreted as the philosophy of unity. That is why, at all events nowadays, we are reviving the practice of reciting the Rukun Negara,” he said.

Aaron also urged the younger generation in the country to not only be aware of the principles of the Rukun Negara but also to understand, practice, and appreciate its values to ensure the sustainability of harmony and unity in the country.

The camp, themed ‘Embracing the Rukun Negara’, was co-organised by the Ministry of National Unity in collaboration with strategic partners, including the Ministry of Education Malaysia (KPM) and the National Unity and Integration Department (JPNIN).
