Rubbish and waste dumped irresponsibly behind Unaco Siburan.By DayakDaily Team
KUCHING, March 19: The Siburan District Council (SDC) has issued a stern warning that individuals caught illegally dumping waste at the area behind Unaco Batu 18 and Lorong 3C Siburan may face a compound fine of up to RM1,000.
The move comes as the council observes a worrying increase in unauthorised dumping, undermining efforts to maintain a clean and safe environment.
On March 18, the council conducted an official site visit to the affected locations to review the ongoing cleaning operations and assess the need for further interventions.
The visit was led by SDC chairman Ranum Bari and accompanied by Cr Solo Saint Djones Kaosz, Public Health and Urban Environment Committee chairman Hiu Kee Sing, council secretary, and Zone 2 councillors Cr Pang Khong Par and Cr Lee Yean Seah.
Ranum (centre) along with councillors during a visit to the locations in Siburan to inspect ongoing cleaning operations recently.“The council has taken immediate action by carrying out cleaning works at the affected areas to ensure that environmental cleanliness and public well being are maintained.
“However, the council has observed that irresponsible parties continue to engage in illegal dumping activities, which undermine the council’s ongoing efforts to maintain a clean and conducive environment,” it said in a media statement today.
SDC reminded the public to avoid dumping at unauthorised areas and urged community members to actively contribute to maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
The council also encourages residents to report illegal dumping by taking photographs as evidence and submitting them via email to [email protected] or by calling 082-862537.
“Offenders will face firm action under the Local Authorities (Cleanliness) By-Laws, 1999, with fines of up to RM1,000. We appreciate the public’s cooperation in keeping Siburan clean and safe for everyone,” the council said. — DayakDaily
