LAWAS, July 1: The RM1.2 million-Punang Nature Walk project is set to be a tourist attraction in Lawas.
According to a news report by TV Sarawak (TVS), Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan described the Punang Nature Walk project as Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA)’s commitment to promote and accelerate Lawas’ economic growth and social development.
“This (Punang Nature Walk project) will add more attraction to the tourism ecosystem in this area,” he said while speaking at the project’s opening ceremony yesterday (June 30).
The construction of the Punang Nature Walk project commenced in August 2020 and was completed on June 27, 2023.
It involved the construction of new public toilets, bathrooms, changing rooms, garbage disposal centres, benches, barbeque sites, camping sites, parking lots, footpaths, and paved roads.
Another project which aims to attract tourists to Kampung Punang is the Tahai Dish Smokehouse and the Fish and Shrimp Breeding Site that has the potential to produce agro- and aquaculture entrepreneurs.
According to Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda) chief execute officer Datu Ismawi Ismuni, the Sarawak government has allocated RM36 million for development projects in Kampung Punang.
It involves six infrastructure development projects—four of which have been completed while the other two are under construction and are close to completion.
The four infrastructure projects that have been completed are Punang Nature Walk, Kampung Punang Tahai Fish Smoke House, Punang Jaya Entrepreneur’s Pavilion and Punang Baru Street to Sungai Bangat Village.
Two projects that are under construction and almost completed are the Punang Baru Mosque and the Kampung Punang National School. — DayakDaily
