SARIKEI, April 16: Rumah Panjang Lingga Ujang in Selangan, comprising 73 doors, is being rebuilt under a RM2.19 million allocation through the Longhouse Housing Loan Scheme implemented by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).

In a TVS news, Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities, Dato Sri Huang Tiong Sii, said each unit received RM30,000 in financing to ensure residents are provided with safer and more comfortable living conditions.

Huang, who is also Sarikei MP and Repok assemblyman, said the longhouse is among the longest in the Sarikei area and is now nearing full completion.

“Beyond rebuilding the homes, attention is also being given to infrastructure, including a 300-metre paved road, six metres wide, constructed in front of the longhouse using allocations from the Malaysian Road Records Information System (MARRIS),” he said in a statement today.

He added that once completed, the project will transform the longhouse into a more modern, comfortable, and well-organised settlement.

He also encouraged residents still living in older longhouses to take advantage of the HDC Longhouse Housing Loan Scheme to rebuild their homes.

Datuk Seri Huang said he remains committed to facilitating applications and securing approvals to improve the quality of life for rural communities.

Earlier, he visited the project site and also presented door units to residents.

Meanwhile, Tuai Rumah Lingga Ujang expressed his appreciation to Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for his leadership in driving rapid development across Sarikei and Meradong.

He also thanked Huang for his continued efforts in ensuring the project became a reality. — DayakDaily
