KUCHING (July 8): The Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) has allocated RM2 million for the construction of a new community centre at Kampung Tasik Biru in Bau near here.

In announcing this, Deputy Minister of Transport Sarawak and Tasik Biru assemblyman Dato Henry Harry Jinep says this reflects the initiatives meant to upgrade the Bidayuh village situated in the outskirts of Bau town, but at the same time, help preserve its traditional features.

“The community centre, upon completion, will be connected to the existing multipurpose hall.

“It follows the concept of a Bidayuh longhouse having eight doors, a Christian centre, a ‘baruk’ (main section of the longhouse), and a ‘tanju’ (veranda) facing Tasik Biru,” he said in a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report on a ceremony to mark the completion of Dewan Kampung Tasik Biru’s new kitchen and toilets last Sunday.

According to Henry, the first phase works on the new community centre are already underway, with Bau District Council acting as the implementing agency.

“The community centre project is currently in the process of appointing an architectural consultant to design the building.”

Later, Henry announced the approval of a Minor Rural Project (MRP) allocation of RM5,000 for the village security and development committee (JKKK) of Kampung Tasik Biru.
