MIRI, 12 Sept: The government allocates RM5 million to expand access to health, therapy and training programs to support the well-being of senior citizens and people with disabilities (OKU) across the country.
Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Dato Sri Nancy Shukri said the allocation aims to benefit 6,500 recipients through various programmes implemented in phases.
Out of this, RM1.995 million was earmarked for the implementation of 133 Golden Citizen Health Programs, while another RM1.995 million was allocated for 133 OKU Therapy Programs.
In addition, RM1.01 million was allocated for the implementation of six series of trainings and seminars related to golden citizen care as well as OKU therapy in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.
"All these provisions reflect the government's commitment to expand access to health, therapy and training programs that can support the well-being of senior citizens as well as OKUs", he said.
He said this while addressing the RYTHM - The Harmonious Rhythm of Life Program of OKU Therapy at the Miri Special Parents' Association (PIBAKIS) Hall, here today.
For Sarawak, a total of 12 Golden Citizen Health Programs were implemented with RM180,000 allocation, while 10 OKU Therapy Programs involved RM150,000 allocation.
Meanwhile, RM92,500 was allocated for the implementation of training related to citizen care and therapy as well as OKU.
He said the approach was also strengthened through cross-sectoral cooperation involving higher education institutions, NGOs, private sector, volunteers and local communities. - TVS
