KUCHING, March 17: The 8.5-kilometre road project linking Jalan Nanga Lasi to Suchong and Balut, costing RM82 million, officially kicked off today and is expected to be completed within 36 months, promising improved connectivity and socio-economic development for the Julau district.

The groundbreaking ceremony and dialogue session were held at Jalan Nanga Lasi, Julau attended by officials, contractors, and local community representatives.

In a post shared on its social media today, Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak said the road will be constructed to JKR R1 standards, extending from the existing Jalan Lasi to Suchong and Balut.

The project also includes the construction of six new reinforced concrete bridges, installation of drainage and sewerage systems, road furniture, and other related works to ensure safety and comfort for road users.

Sara Muhibbah Sdn Bhd is the main contractor, while Infrareka Sdn Bhd serves as the civil and structural consultant.

Officials said the project is expected to benefit local residents through enhanced accessibility, better connectivity, and stimulation of socio-economic growth in Julau and the surrounding areas. — DayakDaily
