SIBU (July 7): Sarawak Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has approved Rumah Lenyam Jelum’s loan application of RM1 million.
According to Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Dudong branch chairman Wong Ching Yong, the loan is meant for rebuilding the longhouse.
“The Sarawak Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has launched a new programme that allows each household to apply for RM50,000 loan to build a new house or RM30,000 to renovate an old house.
“This loan is interest-free and aims to help rural residents escape poverty and assist those affected by disasters.
“The HDC loan programme stipulates that applicants need to repay RM300 per month over a period of 25 years and includes insurance coverage.
“The 20-door longhouse collectively applied for RM1 million loan to rebuild the longhouse, whereby each door will obtain RM50,000.”
Wong, who is also Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) deputy chairman, said this during a recent visit to the longhouse in Batu Wong to hand over the letter of successful application to Tuai Rumah (TR) Lenyam Jelum.
He was accompanied by political secretary to Premier William Anut, Pemanca Paing Tawi and SUPP Dudong service team.
On another matter, Wong also revealed that the residents have reported about a tree obstructing the road and called for action to be taken.
Praising the HDC loan programme, Paing encouraged all residents to check the quality of the purchased materials, promptly take photos or videos of any problems and report them to the people’s representatives or relevant government departments.
“These measures and suggestions are intended to further enhance the living quality of rural residents, ensuring they receive practical help and support.”
