KUCHING, May 25: The Sarawak government, through the Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda) and the Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA), will take over the implementation of a RM50 million road project leading to Rumah Ajan Renang in Merapok.
According to Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, the project will connect Rumah Ajan Renang to the main Lawas-Merapok road, as well as the Meragang Buffalo Breeding Station, with works expected to begin before the end of the year.
He added that the project was previously implemented by the federal government through the former Ministry of Rural Development before being taken over by NRDA.
“The allocation from Recoda and NRDA is already in place, and we will implement the road leading to the Meragang Station.
“This road infrastructure will further enhance our economy. The approved allocation is RM50 million, and I have been informed that implementation will commence before the end of this year,” he said when officiating the Lawas District Pre-Gawai Ngancau Tikai 2026 celebration at Rumah Panjang Ajan Renang on Sunday (May 24).
Meanwhile, he also said that roads leading to the longhouses at Lumut Laut and Siang-Siang Laut would be implemented in tandem with the development of the new Lawas Airport, which will be located near both longhouse settlements. — DayakDaily
