KOTA KINABALU (Nov 19): Sabah Football Association (Safa) announced several new appointments as part if its early preparation to face major competitions next year.

It included the appointment of its vice president Datuk Fairuz Renddan, who is also the Assistant Youth and Sports Minister, as the chairman of the MFL Cup, President Cup and Youth Cup teams for 2024.

Asmey Ruddy has been appointed as the team manager of the state football squad for the Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2024 that Sarawak will host in August.

Safa president Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya said the appointments were unanimously agreed during a recent executive meeting.

There was also a minor reshuffle of the state football body where Shamsuddin Mohd Shah will replace Datuk Abdul Rahman Zakaria as the new Safa secretary general.

“The restructuring of the state football body is very important to ensure that the development and management of Safa continues to run smoothly.

“All the new appointments have vast experience in football and they will definitely be able to bring positive contribution to football in Sabah,” Shahelmey said in a statement on Sunday.

He added that Safa needed to make the best preparation for the 2024 campaign.

“The next objective is to prepare teams to face every tournament where we hope to achieve good results.
“In order to achieve the desired result and to be competitive, we must have the right preparation … the earliest the better,” said Shahelmey.
