SIBU (March 7): A ‘bubur pedas’ distribution programme carried out by the Pelawan branch of Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) today highlighted efforts to promote Sarawak’s traditional taste during the Ramadan season.

Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang said the choice to distribute ‘bubur pedas’, instead of the more commonly served ‘bubur lambuk’, meant to showcase a local Sarawak delicacy to the community.

“Actually there’s no difference; just having different flavours.

“That signifies that we always have this multi-cultural and multi-religious spirit.

“Some have ‘bubur pedas’, some have ‘bubur lambuk’,” he told reporters when met during the ‘Jerayawara Saberkas Cawangan Pelawan 2026’ held at Jalan Universiti near Tun Zaidi Indoor Stadium here.

A total of 550 packs of ‘bubur pedas’ were distributed to passers-by and members of the public during the programme.

Tiang, the assemblyman for Pelawan, added: “All Saberkas’ 82 branches are doing this programme.”
