KUCHING (Nov 3): The Santubong Sports League 2024 is aimed at encouraging the local community to embrace a healthy and active lifestyle, says Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.
According to the federal Women, Family and Community Development Ministers and Santubong MP, the event stands as a part of ongoing efforts to motivate people to go for regular workout so as to stay healthy.
“Maintaining a healthy life through regular exercise and a balanced diet can help reduce chronic disease rates among women and, in turn, improve life expectancy in Sarawak,” she said in launching Santubong Sports League 2024 at Politeknik Kuching here today.
The Santubong Sports League 2024 is organised by the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Santubong Constituency Service Centre.
Adding on, Nancy pointed out that the programme also meant to foster unity among the community by encouraging participants to spend quality time with families and friends through sports.
“The unity among our diverse ethnic groups can be strengthened when we work towards a common goal and show mutual respect.
“Sports can be an excellent platform to bring people together and promote inter-ethnic harmony,” she said, as quoted by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) in a report.
In this regard, Nancy pointed at the women’s double badminton tournament as a sports initiative that could promote community cohesion in the Santubong parliamentary area.
She added that the programme could also served to inspire youths, women and local residents to adopt a culture of wellness through sports.
Meanwhile, Nancy also commended Politeknik Kuching Sarawak for supporting the state government’s sports initiatives.
“Not only has Politeknik Kuching Sarawak developed talented athletes in badminton, but it has also provided volunteers for the recent Sukma (Malaysia Games) 2024, showcasing its commitment to nurturing athletic excellence in Sarawak” said the federal minister.
