GLASGOW, United Kingdom, 6 Oct: Sarawak wants to take advantage of the World Water Congress and Exhibition, International Water Association 2028 in Kuching as a platform to strengthen the state water sector through knowledge sharing, technology and practical solutions.

Sarawak Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications, Datuk Liwan Lagang, said the congress's attendance gave Sarawak an opportunity to bring together the global water community to share experiences and explore new approaches in addressing the challenges of the sector.

He said Sarawak also saw the launch as an opportunity to learn about global experience, strengthen cooperation and explore new ideas and solutions for the water sector.

"We want to bring the global water community together in Sarawak to share knowledge, technology and practical solutions that can help address water challenges now and in the future", he said at the congress on Monday.

At the ceremony, Liwan received an official submission as host of the 2028 congress from Glasgow organisers 2026.

It was also the first time that such a congress was held in the region, thus opening up space for Sarawak to strengthen international cooperation and knowledge sharing in the water sector.

The congress is scheduled to take place at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching 2 (BCCK2) and is expected to be a platform for global water communities to exchange ideas, experiences and solutions, as well as explore new opportunities in the sector.

During the working visit to the United Kingdom, Sarawak delegates also visited Winchburgh Wastewater Treatment Works and the University of Edinburgh for insights into plant operation and management best practices, water research and innovation, water safety and climate change.

"We also want delegates to have the opportunity to get to know Kuching and Sarawak, including nature, cultural diversity, local food and our community's hospitality", he said. -TVS
