KUCHING, Aug 18: Dayang Nurulnuhaa Fasihah Abang Misbahhuddin has made history today by ending Sarawak’s eight-year gold medal drought in petanque (women’s shooting event) at the 2024 Malaysia Games (Sukma).

This marks Sarawak’s 14th gold medal in the competition so far.

According to national news agency Bernama, Dayang Nurulnuhaa delivered a thrilling performance against Nur Arissa Qasreena Ratinan of the federal territories in today’s intense match at the Sarawak State Petanque Court here.

Bernama further reported that both athletes were closely matched in the early rounds, but Dayang Nurulnuhaa’s precision in the third and fifth disciplines secured her a 29-27 victory, clinching Sarawak’s first gold in petanque since 2016.

Meanwhile, in the bronze medal contest, Johor’s Norissyakila Mohamed Sani dominated Sarawak’s Fatin Raifana Abdul Rahman, securing a convincing 29-26 victory.

As of press time, Sarawak is currently in the lead for the Sukma 2024 medal tally, having secured an impressive total of 32 medals – 14 gold, 11 silver, and seven bronze. — DayakDaily
