KUCHING, May 14: The Sarawak Day 2026 celebration, set to take place in Sibu from July 20 to 22, is expected to draw more than 5,000 attendees.
Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said this year’s celebration will feature a wide range of inclusive programmes reflecting Sarawak’s unique identity as a multicultural and multireligious region.
“The participation of community leaders, ethnic leaders, and the people as a whole, especially from the central zone, must be comprehensive to ensure the success of the celebration,” he said during the first Main Committee Meeting for Sarawak Day Celebration 2026 held at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly Complex today.
Among the key highlights planned is a Sales Carnival, which will be coordinated by Deputy Minister for Education and Innovation Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee.
An Interfaith Thanksgiving Ceremony will also be held at Kingwood Hotel under the coordination of Deputy Minister for Public Health and Housing Dato Dr Penguang Manggil.
Meanwhile, the Zumba and Unity Programme, scheduled at Dataran Tun Tuanku Haji Bujang, will be overseen by Deputy Minister for Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang.
A thanksgiving ceremony will also be held at Masjid An-Nur, while a townhall session is slated for Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud Chancellor Hall.
The two programmes will be coordinated respectively by Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya and Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol.
The highlight events, namely the Sarawak Day Assembly and People’s Concert, will be coordinated by Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh. — DayakDaily
