ADVERTISE HERE

Sarawak Energy’s facilities affected by adverse weather conditions.
KUCHING (Jan 17): Sarawak Energy has advised the public to remain vigilant and exercise caution, particularly when travelling through areas affected by floodwaters and soil erosion, which may pose hazardous conditions.
The safety advisory was issued following continuous rainfall that has caused flooding, landslides and power disruptions in several parts of Sarawak.
“Floodwaters can conceal hazards such as fallen power lines, open manholes, sharp debris and other dangers that could result in electric shock, fire or injury,” Sarawak Energy said in a statement.
The state utility company urged the public to switch off the main electrical supply at the household switchboard once water levels begin to rise, unplug electrical appliances and move them to higher ground during floods.
It said people must keep away from electrical facilities that may be damaged by extreme weather.
“Strong winds can cause electricity poles to break and fall. Stay away from fallen power lines as these may still be energised.
“When using boats in flooded areas, remain vigilant of overhead power lines, as elevated water levels may reduce clearance from high-voltage lines,” pointed out Sarawak Energy.
After floods, it advised the community to keep a safe distance from fallen power lines as they may still be live.
Sarawak Energy said electrical appliances that have been submerged in floodwaters must not be used due to the risk of electrocution or fire.
It added: “Engage a licensed and qualified electrician to inspect household or building wiring before turning the main power supply back on.”
Sarawak Energy said its technical teams are on the ground and on standby 24 hours a day to ensure all electrical facilities are safe to operate.
Members of the public are advised to report public outages or unsafe infrastructure through Sarawak Energy’s Customer Care Centre at 1300-88-3111, e-mail [email protected], make a report at SEB cares mobile app/web portal or chat with virtual agent CARINA.
