Sarawak family wellbeing score rises to 9.57

KUCHING: The state recorded a score of 9.57 in the 2025 Family Wellbeing Index (IKK), placing it in the high category under the index’s assessment scale.

Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the score is a significant improvement from 7.09 in 2016 and 7.78 in 2019.

She said the index, developed by the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN), measures family wellbeing across eight key domains.

These cover family relationships, family economy, health, safety, community involvement, religion and spirituality, housing and environment, as well as family and communication technology.

“In 2016, Sarawak recorded 7.09 before increasing to 7.78 in 2019. It rose again in 2022 but was below the national wellbeing index.

“In 2025, Sarawak’s score for the Family Wellbeing Index is 9.57, the highest so far,” she said.

Fatimah said this during the ministry and its agencies’ 2025 Excellent Service Awards ceremony at a hotel here last night (Sept 18).

According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS), Sarawak, Penang and the Federal Territory of Labuan recorded some of the most notable improvements in the index in 2025.

Fatimah said Sarawak’s performance reflected continued efforts to strengthen family and community wellbeing through initiatives implemented by agencies and units under her ministry.

She said these efforts also contributed to broader measures of social wellbeing, including the Social Wellbeing Index and happiness index.

She added that efforts must continue through programmes and interventions focusing on the overall wellbeing of families and communities.
