Sarawak gymnasts eye national glory at AGG Championship 2026

KUCHING: Team Sarawak gymnasts will vie for the national title at the Malaysia Aesthetic Group Gymnastics (AGG) Championship 2026 and Dato’ Malek Cup 2026 in Kuala Lumpur this weekend.

The Sarawak contingent will compete at Endah Parade on Sept 26 and 27, with teams from Kuching and Sibu set to take on competitors from across the country.

Sarawak Aesthetic Group Gymnastics Association (SAGGA) said the contingent was heading into the national competition with confidence after months of training, rehearsals and competitions in Sarawak.

“The national championship will bring together some of the country’s strongest AGG teams, and Sarawak is ready to step onto the floor with confidence, discipline and pride,” SAGGA said in a statement on Friday.

Leading the 2026 contingent as Chef de Mission is Aidwina Aidan Wing, supported by managers, coaches and judges throughout the competition.

The Sarawak representation comprises Track & Dance, Mine Dance Studio, SJK(C) Chung Hua Sungai Lubak, SJK(C) Chung Hua No. 6, SJK(C) Sungai Apong and Rainbow Rhythmic Gymnastics Club, Sibu.

The teams will compete in the IFAGG, NAD and Compulsory programmes across age categories ranging from Under 10 to Under 18.

Among those representing Sarawak are TD Elite Prime, Night Stone, Luminous, Stars of Sarawak, Lubak Nova, Hexa Legends, Silver Swan, Harmony Bloom, Hexa Heroes, Lubak Shine, Rainbow Ruby, The Gifted Bunnies, S.L. Elite and Lubak Phoenix.

SAGGA said the participation of teams from Sibu alongside those from Kuching reflected the continued expansion of AGG beyond a single club or location in Sarawak.

“This is more than another competition. It represents the continued growth of AGG in Sarawak — from grassroots programmes and school-based development to athletes now stepping onto the national competition floor,” it said.

The contingent held its final rehearsal at Dewan Sa’ati yesterday before departing for Kuala Lumpur, with the session focusing on synchronisation, teamwork and performance readiness.

SAGGA said the rehearsal also reinforced the importance of connection in AGG, where gymnasts must work together through movement, timing, eye contact and expression.

The team also received encouragement from Chan Lay Na, who attended the final rehearsal, watched the gymnasts’ final run and spent time with them before their departure.

With the national championship now just days away, SAGGA said the Sarawak gymnasts were ready to represent their respective clubs and schools, while carrying the state’s colours onto the national stage.
